Interview - VSMAGAZINELIVE.COM

THE GIRL OF THE SEASON
In a business where new faces come and go like the wind and only a few remain, predicting a model’s career takes a soothsayer’s magic. Yet, we asked models.com's Wayne Sterling to pick out THE GIRL OF THE SEASON, the first in a regular series for Vs. He chose Magda Laguinge as the freshest, most striking face in fashion right now.

When 18-year-old Argentinian Magda Laguinge exited as ‘Girl 1’ at Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer ‘12 show, she was a beautiful young newcomer in a sea of other beautiful young newcomers. By mid-December, as the final editorials and campaigns were wrapping up, she had distinguished herself
as one of those unique models with the promise of longevity.

What set Magda apart? It's this thing she does on camera, which takes her beyond being photogenic into being an instinctive performer. It is an ability she is clearly conscious of. She articulates it as the realization that a great model has to own an amazing personality and that her personality has to be seen in a picture. “I want to provoke feelings when people see my pictures,” she says. In this regard Magda certainly has the ability to succeed with her intent; proving that being striking on the runway is the easy part.

Of course she's had the benefit of being selected for some of the most demanding runways for the houses of Balenciaga, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu. Yet what is most intriguing about this new beauty is the emotional passion she promises to bring to a picture.

"When I get my look at an editorial shoot, I try to recreate a character, imagine a history in my head based on what I am wearing and of course the directions the photographer gives me,” she adds. Let there be no doubt: Magda Laguinge is very ready for her close-up.
