CR Fashion Book Interview

What was your experience like working on the premiere issue of CR Fashion Book?
Shooting for CR was amazing!!! The first shoot that I worked on was with Carine Rotfield and Sebastian Faena. I came to the shoot right straight from the airport that morning. Sebastian is Argentinian, the same as me, and it is very nice to work with people from the same country. It was pretty relaxed on set and the pictures of all the models are AMAZING. Sebastian has a really cinematic idea about pictures what make them very interesting and artistic.. that way of working makes me really excited. I’m very glad to be on the premiere issue of CR Fashion Book.

What was your first runway show? What was your first fashion moment?
My first runway show was Marc Jacobs, when I opened his show that was the start of my career, after that I did the shows in different fashion capitals around the world and I started shooting important editorials and campaigns.

What does your NY fashion week look like?
I love NY fashion week, because New York is one of my favorite cities to be in and everyone is there. It makes me feel very, very excited … It is the beginning of a whole new season and you can start to see what designers want to express and show with their work.

How many days do you travel during fashion month? What cities do you hit?

The fashion week’s really takes about one month and a half between NY, London, Milan, and Paris.

Beauty secrets…how do you keep a fresh face?

The best way to keep a fresh face is sleeping and relaxing. Since that’s impossible during shows, it is always good to have a little holiday before fashion week starts… and during the rest of the year I don’t expose my skin to the sun, I always take all of my makeup off before bed, and I use a very soft hydrating cream and some tonic lotion every day.

What models do you look up to?
I don’t really look up to other models, but I can say that I admire some girl’s careers like Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls and Arizona Muse… they are great models.

What role does fashion play in your life?
Right now fashion plays a really important role in my life because it is the part of my job which I LOVE. It is very interesting and exciting to see how it changes and grows. I always watch it, follow it, and I enjoy being a be part of it.

Give us a little insight into your private world.
I love to cook different things, especially cakes.. Since I was young I’ve loved to act. There are nine people in my family, and all of my brother and sisters used to make little plays. I was the director and also an actress in all of them.. It was very funny. I love to hang out with friends and I like to be friendly. I am used to be with people around me all the time. I really want to study acting and ballet. There are too many different things to do!!!

THE INTERVIEW:

The Chosen

In a year her life changed: she left hes native Cordoba by the runways of New York and Paris. This is the story of Magda Laguinge, who at 19 has already conquered the world.

There she was, with 1.78 meters and an exotic beauty forward the designer Marc Jacobs, fashion genius and artistic director of Louis Vuitton. A stranger until then for the cordobian Magda Laguinge, which took its first steps into the world of modeling. In the interview, he told her to suspend their trips because she would be in charge of opening the runway in New York. But she heard the good news in installments: Magda had just arrived to the Big Apple and barely spoke English.

This opened a door unthinkable. A before and after. In just one year, the model of 19 years from the agency Look 1, campaigned for Louis Vuitton and walked for Balenciaga and Chanel, traveled to Berlin, China and Tokyo and she knows Paris and New York as the palm of her hand.

Ensures that nothing would be possible without the support of their parents-both graduate in Political Science, and her six brothers. She inherited her father's height and the face of her mother. "They trust me and are my reference and my ground wire," she says. Very Catholic, always accompanies a rosary that her father brought from Tierra Santa.

When she traveling to is in permanent contact with them, by mail, phone and Skype. And she returns with suitcases full of gifts: teas, mugs and spanish fan from Orient, german chocolates and candies from every corner of the world.

How is working in the European fashion world and the United States?
The marks on the outside are more bureaucratic, methodical and organized, in Argentina, more relaxed. Outside they are very professional and they leave everything to make a career, they will fund. If you want to do well you have to sacrifice a lot.

What do you sacrificed?
I went to live alone in another country without knowing the language. I left my studies of economics, but I have no regrets. These are risks. I stopped seeing my family and my friends. I'm not on their birthdays, I miss weddings, communions.

What do you love about your work?
It is an opportunity to grow. It's a job that allows me to get what I want: to be a good model. And do other things, to open other doors.

What do you care?
As all, but healthy. Genetics helps me a lot, but you have to watch because you have to follow certain steps, not weight. I exercise every day, and as I am too lazy to get into the gym to tape, long way through the cities I visit. I also did appliances. Breakfast coffee with milk, toast with cheese and yogurt with cereal. I went to a nutritionist who helped me eat well. Each time I return to Cordoba sweet tarts enjoy preparing my mom, and my dad roasts.

What bothers you about fashion?
Since I am Catholic, not do nudity. Also, I would not feel comfortable. I respect the trend but I don't like.

During the fashion production of this magazine, she responds with good humor to the suggestions of the photographer Urko Suaya and she has fun with fashion design proposals. At the end, surprises with her look: fur coat inherited, bootees and shirt from Paris, hat from New York and vest of her great-grandmother. With the same style, she walks on the streets of Cordoba and dance in the discos of the Big Apple, the same places who frequent Leonardo DiCaprio and Beyoncé.

Model Call: Magda Laguinge

By Taylor Harris

Magda Laguinge is a go-with-the-flow kind of girl. Which is one reason why she and Juergen Teller got along so swimmingly while shooting the Marc Jacobs fall 2012 ad campaign, which was released late last week. “He’s just like completely in the moment,” says the Next model. “The first day we shot at this outdoor location in the Bronx, near the river. And the second day was supposed to be at that same location but it was raining. So the makeup artist said, ‘If you want to come to my apartment, we can do it there?’ Juergen was like, ‘OK!’” Pretty easy breezy for a Marc Jacobs campaign. “Juergen’s super relaxed,” Laguinge adds. “He even let me pick my own hat.” The spot (which also features a handful of the hottest models of the moment) was the latest in a series of big scores landed by the 19-year-old stunner, who also appears in Louis Vuitton’s fall campaign. We spoke with Laguine by phone — from her new apartment in New York’s Stuyvesant Town — before she headed home to Argentina for some pre-fashion month R&R.

WWD: Are you working today?
Laguinge: No, I’m off. It’s great. I’m going to lunch with my old booker, Jason. Then I have to run some errands because I’m going home to Argentina soon, for a whole month, so I need to go shopping today for that. Whenever I go home I always buy a lot of presents for my family. Whenever I travel, I always buy something from that country. When I was in Germany, I got them chocolate. When I was in China, I bought tea and these amazing candies.

WWD: What gifts will represent New York?
Laguinge: I know it’s corny but I think those I Love New York T-shirts. I need to think about it.

WWD: Was it a bit of a culture shock when you first moved to New York?
Laguinge: Yeah, my first trip here was a year and a half ago and I didn’t know any English. I could say, ‘Hello, how are you? My name is Magda’ and my height. But I couldn’t say anything else, not even ‘bye.’ Also, it was winter. Where I come from in Argentina, it never really gets that cold. I came here and it was like minus five degrees! Snow was everywhere. So yeah, that was totally different for me, a shock really.

WWD:
How did you learn to speak English?
Laguinge:The more I travelled with English-speakers, the more I learned. I didn’t take a class or anything. I just learned talking to people. I think that’s the best way.

WWD: How will you recharge before the shows?
Laguinge: It’s very important to meditate, to relax your mind basically. Also, sleep a lot because when the shows start, it’s impossible. I mean if you’re doing a lot of shows, you sleep like three or four hours per night. But I love it. It’s a very important time for your career. If you have a good season, you grow a lot. It’s weird, you can go from a nobody to someone important if you walk in like one big show.

WWD: You’ve become quite a somebody. Did you know there’s a blog about you called ‘I Love Magda Laguinge’?
Laguinge: Yes, I know! It’s really surprising. It’s so crazy. Can you imagine, for a normal girl to see people start to write about you? It’s insane.

i-Profile: Magda Laguinge

If dark and mysterious is your cup of tea, look no further. A vision of mystical beauty, Magda Laguinge is the 5’10″ Argentinian lady who is a vamp!

Magda has good looks. Cast for The Lights, Camera, Action Issue‘s non-Olympic sport shoot by Fashion Director Charlotte Stockdale, Magda shined in Twister, sack racing and conker fighting. With a perfect wide-set pair of giant baby blues and lashes long enough to knock you out, her beauty knows no bounds. Unafraid to flash a smile, Magda is full of charm and making the most of her modelling career by living it up. If it weren’t for the day job however, she says she would hit the books and study economic sciences. Impressed by her brain and her beauty, i-D online caught up to the lovely lass to find out how she works it in front of the camera.

What was it like growing up in Argentina? We are a family of seven children, I am the second and though we had the basic things that we needed, we grew up sharing everything. My parents raised me in a very traditional way (as is typical in my city). We were surrounded by nature and climbed lots of trees! As we didn’t have many material things, I used my imagination to create simple games for my brothers and sisters. I had fun and I think that was one of the most beautiful stages of my life where I learnt the codes and principles that I use today.

Where do you go to have a good time in Argentina? What I enjoy most at this time in Argentina is hanging out with my family, having barbecues and just spending time together. I like visiting old friends and also dancing to good music in a nice club.

Describe yourself in five words… Chocolate. Original. Faith. Force. Adaptation.

What was the last song you listened to on your iPod? I don’t have an iPod! But the last song I listened to was by Metronomy.

What do you get up to when you’re not modelling? Well, the truth is I have very little free time. When I’m not working, I go shopping, I love finding original things. Also I try to tick off from my to-do lists. I also try to study some English and I went to my first ballet class a few days ago.

How did you get scouted? I was scouted when I was thirteen on the Mar del Plata beach in Buenos Aires. But I started to work four years later when I was nearly eighteen.

What’s the best thing about your job? The opportunity to see other ways of living.

How do you feel when you are in front of the camera? It’s incredible. It’s the most beautiful feeling. I think that I’m inside a movie and I have to play a role in the story. My favourite character is a crazy person from Antiquity. I can imagine a whole history in one second.

What has been the highlight of your career so far? Mmmm, that’s a big secret and I can’t say yet, but you will see it soon!

What would you be doing if you weren’t modelling? I would be studying economic sciences at the faculty of my city, Cordoba.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given? There are two. The first is ‘you have to give it to receive it.’ The second is ‘Want, search, find’.

Interview - VSMAGAZINELIVE.COM

THE GIRL OF THE SEASON
In a business where new faces come and go like the wind and only a few remain, predicting a model’s career takes a soothsayer’s magic. Yet, we asked models.com's Wayne Sterling to pick out THE GIRL OF THE SEASON, the first in a regular series for Vs. He chose Magda Laguinge as the freshest, most striking face in fashion right now.

When 18-year-old Argentinian Magda Laguinge exited as ‘Girl 1’ at Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer ‘12 show, she was a beautiful young newcomer in a sea of other beautiful young newcomers. By mid-December, as the final editorials and campaigns were wrapping up, she had distinguished herself
as one of those unique models with the promise of longevity.

What set Magda apart? It's this thing she does on camera, which takes her beyond being photogenic into being an instinctive performer. It is an ability she is clearly conscious of. She articulates it as the realization that a great model has to own an amazing personality and that her personality has to be seen in a picture. “I want to provoke feelings when people see my pictures,” she says. In this regard Magda certainly has the ability to succeed with her intent; proving that being striking on the runway is the easy part.

Of course she's had the benefit of being selected for some of the most demanding runways for the houses of Balenciaga, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu. Yet what is most intriguing about this new beauty is the emotional passion she promises to bring to a picture.

"When I get my look at an editorial shoot, I try to recreate a character, imagine a history in my head based on what I am wearing and of course the directions the photographer gives me,” she adds. Let there be no doubt: Magda Laguinge is very ready for her close-up.

Meet the New Girl: Magda Laguinge Has Marc Jacobs to Thank for Her Career - Interview

Meet the New Girl: Magda Laguinge Has Marc Jacobs to Thank for Her Career
By James Lim

Magda Laguinge was a nobody until she opened Marc Jacobs’s spring 2012 show in New York as an exclusive to the label — one of the most desirable bookings an established or unknown face can get. The soft-spoken, 19-year-old Argentinean then skipped London Fashion Week to shoot a spread for Wonderland magazine, but reemerged in Milan to walk for Roberto Cavalli and Marni. In Paris, her resume got much more impressive when she modeled in the Chanel, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton shows. Campaign bookings followed: Currently, Languine’s a face of Topshop for spring (alongside Marihenny Rivera and Lara Mullen). We met her recently to talk about working with Marc Jacobs, her intense workout routine, and more.

Tell me a bit about your childhood.

Well, I was born in Córdoba, Argentina, and I have [six] brothers and sisters — two younger sisters and four brothers. It’s funny, since I’ve become a model my sisters now ask me what clothes they should wear and all about makeup. [My childhood] was great because we would all play together. With the people I’m close with, I’m talkative, but generally I’m a quiet person. I like to be observant.
How did you get discovered?
When I was 13-years-old, a booker from my mother agency in Argentina stopped me as I was walking to the beach. He gave me his card, but then I lost it. Strangely enough, when I was 17, they found me again and I started to work locally for about two months, and then I got set up with Next.
How interested in modeling were you?
When I was young, I was really, really thin and really tall, so everyone would tell me, “You have to be a model!” But I didn’t want to model. While most young girls dream of becoming an actress, singer, or model, I actually wanted to work at a bank. [Laughs.] It seemed like a nice idea at the time.
What was it like to open the Marc Jacobs show?
My agency called me and told me I was booked to do the looks for the show, so for two and a half days I worked alongside an amazing team; some days, I didn’t leave the studio until three in the morning. I was told I was opening an hour before the show started, so it was emotional for me. I knew in that moment my career would change, you know? I was afraid and happy at the same time.
What do you remember most about working with Marc?
He’s so, so sweet. A real nice, good person, which is very important. Everyone on his team is happy and I think when you work you have to stay happy because then you can see that happiness in the work, too.
After that show, I’m sure things changed for you.
Yeah, I did a lot of castings in Milan and Paris and many people would say, “Oh you’re the girl who opened Marc Jacobs!” For this, I really appreciate Marc.
Make any new friends?
Yeah, by the end of Fashion Week, I’d see a lot the same girls, like Fei Fei [Sun] and Aymeline [Valade]. Louis Vuitton’s show was very special to me because of the carousel theme with all the models inside. It was perfect.
Craziest thing you saw backstage?
The backstage photographers. Maybe you just want to sit down, be quiet, and read a book, but they don’t think about that. All the time they were like, “Magda, we want your picture.” This was really surprising.
What are you reading right now?
I love to read. Currently, I’m on Los Mitos Setentistas by Agustin Laje Arrigoni. It’s about Argentina during the 1700s.
Do you work out?
Yes, of course. I think in this industry you have to be really, really healthy. I work out everyday; I do cardio for an hour and do lots of abs work. Sometimes I lift weights for my shoulders.
What about your diet?
Normally, I eat a healthy, pretty normal diet. No fried foods, not a lot of bread, and no cookies. I treat myself to chocolate, but only on the weekends. Once or twice a week, I’ll eat one thing I really love. For example, yesterday I went out with one of my agents and we had sushi – it’s my favorite food – with lots of desserts afterwards. I always try and carry something sweet in my bag.
What is something you don’t like about yourself?
I get distracted pretty easily. It’s terrible. I always lose things, too.
What is one thing you have in Argentina that you can’t find in New York, Milan, or Paris?Real dulce-de-leche yerba mate. The tea is stronger back home.
If not modeling, what would you be doing?
I’d be in university studying economics. Before I started traveling for modeling last January, I was studying mathematics for the exam to enter university. My agency called me one day and asked, “Do you want to travel in fifteen days?” I said, “Yes, of course,” so I left everything and started traveling, and I haven't stopped since.

Adored by Marc Jacobs, Magda comments in the backstage at the show and says the secrets to being a top - Interview

At age 19, the argentinian model Laguinge Magda (Way) saw her career take off after the opening of the the summer 2012 Marc Jacobs fashion show in September 2011, fashion week in New York. "Have been three days of clothing test, they sewed all the pieces in my body. But at no time knew that it would open the show, the announcement came ten minutes before the show! It was a complete surprise, I was super nervous" she told on Chic backstage at Senac Rio Fashion Business.

Speaking at the American designer, Magda confides, "he told me he does not sleep the week before the fashion whow, but it was super nice. The whole team is very united. "

Since then, the girl modeled for Balenciaga, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Chloé and Marni. "I have no home, I'm working all the time. All I have - especially vintage pieces and clothing of shows - is in my bags that leap from hotel to hotel. But in April I move to New York. "Any place to recommend in town? "I love Japanese food and consider the BondSt in Soho, the best of all."

Even novice in the profession, Magda knows what to recommend for those just starting in the area and look for inspiration: "The secret is not to copy other models, be yourself. In expressing their own identity only increase the chances. The personality of a top is very important, I believe it represents 50% time to get a job. "
